'The global enthusiasm for our distinctive Boker M4 Sherman Damascus inspired us to create a classic version featuring historically sourced Damascus steel. Smaller and more traditional than the original, this Boker Barlow is compact enough for a trouser pocket while still standing out in a display case. Its blade is crafted from the unique Sherman Damascus, opens with a nail nick and is a non-locking slipjoint; a 90-degree detent at open and closed positions improves operational safety. The Barlow’s characteristic drop shape traces back to 17th-century English pocket knives, and the name likely refers to a Sheffield maker who began exporting these sturdy knives to North America around 1800. They became popular there, and Barlow models appear in Böker’s history by the late 19th century.\n\nThe American M4 Sherman tank, designed in 1940 and produced from 1942–1945, remained in service until 1957 and saw service with the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Free French Forces, China and even the Soviet Union. Nearly 50,000 were built, making it the Allies’ most widely used tank of World War II, produced in many mission-specific variants and used into the Cold War. In collaboration with the Wartime Museum in Virginia, we preserved material from restored M4 Shermans to incorporate into this knife.\n\nThe Boker Barlow M4 Sherman Damascus features a one-of-a-kind 80-layer Damascus blade forged from materials recovered from restored Sherman tanks. Hand-forged by Chad Nichols in a custom Ladder pattern, the blade’s pattern evokes the heavy track marks left by the tank. The integral stainless-steel handles are CNC-milled from solid stock, forming the bolsters and hand-ground to a matte finish, and are fitted with burlap Micarta scales colored to recall authentic U.S. Army and Marine Corps camouflage. Each knife comes with a high-quality felt storage pouch, a certificate of authenticity and an individual serial number. Handmade at the Boker knife manufactory in Solingen.'
