Boker
'The overwhelming interest in our original Boker Tirpitz-Damast inspired us to create a more compact model featuring the historic Damascus steel. The Boker Barlow Prime Tirpitz Damascus is smaller than the original yet equally striking in a collector’s display and perfectly suited as an elegant pocket knife. Its blade is forged from genuine Tirpitz Damascus, finished with a modern, elongated ricasso and opened with a traditional nail nick.\n\nThe steel’s story adds real provenance: after World War II, a Norwegian specialist salvaged high-alloy armor from the sunken sister ship of the Bismarck, the Tirpitz. Norwegian divers recovered pieces of that special armor for Boker, and our Damascus smiths exclusively forge this living history into an extraordinary Damascus with a compelling backstory. The blade displays a Great Pyramid pattern in 200 layers and—thanks to the combination of Tirpitz steel and carbon tool steels—delivers exceptional durability with a Rockwell hardness of 61–63 HRC.\n\nFunctional safety is enhanced by a 90-degree locking mechanism when opening and closing the slipjoint knife. The Barlow’s characteristic drop shape dates back to 17th-century English pocket knives; the name likely comes from a Sheffield maker who began exporting sturdy knives to North America around 1800. Barlow models also appear in Boker’s Solingen history from the late 19th century.\n\nThis integral interpretation of the classic features a contoured handle body milled from solid black micarta that forms the distinctive Barlow bolsters. The lightweight construction eliminates the need for metal liners. Contoured handle scales in domestic walnut ensure a comfortable grip. Decorative rivets are nickel silver and the pivot screw is stainless steel. The knife is supplied with a high-quality felt storage case and is handmade in the Boker Knife Manufactory in Solingen.'
