'Since the 14th century, the so‑called Kotten—small farm cottages—have shaped the history of Solingen, the city of blades. Their heavy grinding stones were powered by water, and blades were honed by hand. The Boker Cottage‑Craft kitchen knife series continues this heritage, using a carefully selected range of traditional materials. Especially notable is the use of high‑carbon, non‑stainless C75 steel, which develops the characteristic blue‑gray patina after only a short time in use. The handle scales are made from locally sourced plum wood: hard, dense, fine‑grained, with a consistent texture and striking color variations. In keeping with Solingen’s centuries‑old knifemaking tradition, the scales are fitted to the blade’s full tang with solid brass rivets.
