'Knife sharpening is as old as the knife itself and remains a topic of debate. Many sharpeners exist, but few are truly convincing: professionals and home users alike often complain that devices are too complicated, require too much patience, produce unsatisfactory results, leave marks on the blade, aren’t suitable for all knives, or are far too expensive. Harald Stallegger, a Boker retailer from Salzburg, studied sharpening methods in depth and developed a patented system: the Vulkanus Knife Sharpener. Its spring-cushioned bars are made of hard alloys combined with carbon-reinforced polyamides, keeping consistent contact with blades of any shape. Two different blade-to-bar angles provide two stages of sharpening: first, material is removed to reshape the edge (draw through with the tip pointing down); second, the edge is honed and burrs removed (draw through with the tip pointing up). The result is reliably sharp—even inexperienced users can achieve a razor edge within minutes. Suitable for both plain and serrated knives.
