'The Boker M4 Sherman - Damascus is a living piece of history that merges fine craftsmanship with authentic historical materials. Based on the American M4 Sherman tank—designed in 1940, produced from 1942 to 1945, and in service until 1957—the knife pays tribute to one of the most famous and widely used Allied tanks of World War II. Nearly 50,000 Shermans were built in numerous mission-specific variants and served not only the United States and Canada but also Great Britain, the Free French Forces, China and the Soviet Union. Originally intended to replace the M3 Grant/Lee, the Sherman’s roles included infantry support, spearheading attacks and strengthening defensive positions; it continued to see service into the Cold War.\n\nIn collaboration with the Americans in Wartime Museum in Virginia, Boker preserved materials from restored M4 Shermans to create a unique 80-layer Damascus blade forged from those historical components. Blade maker Chad Nichols hand-forged the Damascus in a custom Ladder pattern, evoking the tracks left by the Sherman’s heavy chains. The ball-bearing blade opens by thumb stud and is secured by a solid steel frame lock, with a Hinderer Lock-Stop providing overstretch protection. The knife’s overall silhouette echoes the tank’s armor lines, while the decorative pivot screw is modeled after the Sherman’s main drive sprocket. A slightly contoured burlap Micarta handle offers a comfortable grip and a color reminiscent of the camouflage used by the U.S. Army and Marine Corps; the knife also includes a lanyard hole and a practical deep-carry clip (tip-up, right).\n\nHandmade at Boker’s Solingen manufactory, each knife is delivered with an elegant floating display, a certificate of authenticity and an individual serial number. A portion of the proceeds from each sale supports the Americans in Wartime Museum’s educational programs and the preservation of these historic vehicles. The museum is a non-profit cultural and educational institution dedicated to honoring those who served in all branches of the U.S. military from World War I to the present, educating the public—especially young people—through personal stories, artifacts, vehicle displays, reenactments and special programs.
