'Although designed for military use, knives issued to soldiers have historically been used more as practical tools for fieldwork and daily duties than primarily as weapons. Officially commissioned service knives are uncommon, though a few procurement organizations did arrange them — examples include the US Army’s M1880 Hunting and M1890 Entrenching knives, the rare Wehrmacht 45 combat and utility knife, and the still-issued British Army MOD Knife. The HK MP7 Personal Duty Knife (PDK) continues this tradition, purpose-built for versatility across tactical and practical tasks for military and law-enforcement users. It meets the expectations of a tactical knife while also serving as a capable modern outdoor, bushcraft, and hunting blade. Named the MP7 Personal Duty Knife in reference to the HK MP7 submachine gun and its Personal Defence Weapon concept, the knife borrows functional traits from the firearm such as ergonomic grip texture, maneuverability, high-quality construction, and reliable performance. Its spear-point blade is made from Swedish 14C28N steel with a black coating; the addition of manganese and nitrogen produces a fine microstructure that delivers high hardness, good edge retention, corrosion resistance, shock and fracture resistance, and ease of re-sharpening. The full tang runs through the handle and is visible at the lanyard hole, though the tang is not exposed at the butt so the handle can be used for thumb pressure or light strikes. The one-piece molded handle is constructed from durable fiberglass-reinforced nylon (FRN). A modular Kydex sheath system was developed to suit a variety of carry situations: the knife sits deeply and securely in the molded sheath without needing an extra fastener, and it can be fitted with either a sturdy nylon belt loop or a MOLLE-compatible steel clip.'
